Macro Kiosk Bhd has introduced a secure short messaging service (SMS) via its "Secure Messaging" technology.

"Macro Kiosk has made this service available in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and China mobile market. It can be rolled out in other countries later this year," it said on April 25.

As the locally developed technology does not require users to change their existing mobile phones, it is useful for financial institutions, which need assurance on confidential delivery and receipt of messages.

The service utilises user identification technologies as well as password control to ensure that only authorised sender and recipient would be able to view the content.

The application, fully developed in-house by Macro Kiosk, took more than six months to be conceptualised, developed, tested and deployed, and has been available to the market since February.

Macro Kiosk chief executive officer Kenny Goh said that the service was targeted towards information security-critical industries such as financial institutions.

"There is more to just property lost when someone loses their mobile phone. These days, critical information could be passed around in SMS and that is more damaging."

"With this new service, the concern in sensitive information being viewed by the wrong party can be addressed," he said.
